Sorting The Pumpkins

via
I passed a pumpkin patch near my cottage recently but it was nothing like this. The pumpkins were picked and put into HUGE boxes for transporting to a local farm market. I like this arrangement better where they are being sorted and sold on site. Have you purchased your pumpkins yet? Enjoy the long Columbus Day weekend. xo

I brought home a lovely pumpkin on Friday. Now I wonder how many more might find their way into my shopping cart or arms at the farmer's market. Irresistible.

Linda -- The Sugar Pumpkins make the best pies. All the farmer's markets have them. Happy baking.

What a beautiful sight! Next year, I want to plant pumpkins. I've wanted to try to grow them for ages, but just never get around to it. I definitely need to find some seeds for those Sugar Pumpkins!

They are so beautiful and organized so nicely. Fall is the one time of the year when I really love the color orange. I've purchased several pumpkins/gourds...mine are all green and white except for one kind of orange bumpy one. It, the kind of orange bumpy fellow, was left on my porch with a note that said, "An ugly pumpkin for a beautiful family." I have no idea who left it but who ever is was knew that I would like the oddness of it.

We are in Montecito....no streetlights, no sidewalks. Halloween is celebrated on "Ghost Village Road" (real name Coast Village Road) at stores, etc.
So my pumpkins consist of pale gray ones.......and one white in Chinese cachepots......not very Halloweenie!
And Halloween is my favorite holiday! All grandchildren in college except one......I will find out if he wants to trick-or-treating with Granny! His first one he was a"pea in a pod"! What is your bet!? Sophomore in High School. 15 and six feet tall. Voice changed and he is very "grown up".

Penelope Bianchi -- Penny, Your area of California sounds so lovely as does your family. I hope your grandson says YES. xo, Rosemary

Pam -- I think pumpkins are fairly easy to grow and don't have many pests. So many people I know have volunteer patches where they threw the pumpkins last year when they started to rot. Definitly plant some of the Sugar variety. They are small. xo, Rosemary

The Queen Vee -- Victoria, I love the note that was left with the ugly pumpkin. That was such a sweet gesture from a mystery neighbor who sees the beauty of your family. xo, Rosemary
