Kitchen with Open Fire

I don't really understand the open fire on the cooktop. It looks dangerous to me. I love the baby's laundry hanging out to dry up high. via

I like the way the cook top, oven and stove area with the firewood storage looks, but think that a great big red fire extinguisher should be in the picture, too, with the open fire in the kitchen. The pretty little bits of greenery overhanging from the planter look pretty, to, until I factor in the open fire in the corner. I've never seen that in a kitchen before, unless it was in an ad for smoke detectors. That is a very interesting photo.

A charming picture, but I agree, odd. You couldn't really cook on the fire until it settled down to embers. I suppose then you could put that teapot on legs over the embers to heat the water. They also seem to have gear for hanging pots at different heights above embers. I assume it is designed to work as a fireplace does, though it doesn't have a screen so I'd be worried about flying sparks. I'd also be worried about the greenery hanging off the edge of the hood. Fun just to look at it and imagine being the cook here.

Love the log splitter on the wall !!
As a wood-burning home heater, I can appreciate
that convenience.

I agree Rosemary, the laundry hanging is my favorite part of this space, the open fireplace not at all, very unsafe.
